Scarce 1923 pattern RUC button. This button is exceptional as it is very large and probably comes from a great coat.
The 1923 pattern came into being at the formation of the RUC and was quickly discontinued after 1923.
This button which is in great condition, has a Kings crown above the Red Hand of Ulster and surrounded by the words “ROYAL ULSTER CONSTABULARY” Made of blackened white metal, it is officer quality and maker marked to reverse “J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Londonengld.” – unusual last letters to this well known maker. It probably represents London England Ltd.
The button measures about 3cms at its widest.
