“Here we see the Garda service number of the original owner and the issue date for October 1947″ width=”2448″ height=”2448″ class=”size-full wp-image-1565” /> Here we see the Garda service number of the original owner and the issue date for October 1947[/caption]This is a very good and original six panel, blue cloth helmet worn by a member of the Gardaí in the 1940’s while on duty in Dublin. For additional information on these helmets please read my article posted on this website. The link for this article entitled “Collecting Irish Garda helmets, some helpful information” is located under the product category list.
The helmet is complete with white metal rose boss on crown, large sized Garda helmet plate on the front of the helmet, leather chin strap and internal liner. The white stencilling on the green interior is typical on such helmets. On thsi helmet the original Garda number is stencilled along with a date indicating that the helmet was issued in 1947.
The helmet is a great piece of early and obsolete Irish policing history. The helmet is in good sturdy condition but could look all the better by some careful cleaning etc.
