Here we have a lovely set of 3 D.M.P buttons in white metal. They represent the 3 sizes of King’s crown buttons worn between 1902 and 1922 in Dublin. All buttons are in very good condition. please look at the description and photographs for more details.

Description

Button 1. is about 25mms in diameter. This button is not maker marked. Button 2. measures about 20mms in diameter. This is maker marked to John Ireland. the 3rd button is about 17/18mms in diameter and is also maker marked to John Ireland.

All buttons have the same obverse comprising a central King’s crown with the words “Dublin Police” going around the circumference.

The buttons have brass backing plates and all are loose shank type.

Condition overall is very good.

The buttons all date to between 1902 and 1922. This was a very turbulent era in Dublin involving seminal moments in modern Irish history such as the 1913 Lockout, the Great War of 1914/18, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War. (Though by the Civil War, these buttons were being replaced by the Póilíni Átha Cliath type insignia).
