A fine helmet plate, once worn on a home service helmet – commonly referred to as a “blue cloth” helmet. These cloth covered, cork helmets had regimental badges fixed to the front of the helmet.

This two piece helmet plate badge belonged to an enlisted man in the Royal Irish Regiment who served during the later part of the Victorian era.

The helmet plate comprises two pieces. The standard Victorian crowned brass backing plate and the central round regimental inset. This brass inset has at its centre a Victorain crown above a harp. This central feature is surrounded by the words ROYAL IRISH.

The helmet plate measures 13cms from North to South.
