This Irish militia button was retailed by HUGH FOLEY DUBLIN. This retailer’s name appears on the button reverse. It is likely that Hugh Foley was the Dublin based military outfitters that supplied the unifrom.
The design on the button comprise a Victorian crown above the Maid of Erin harp. Underneath is a scroll with the words “North Tipperary”.
This is an early Victorian coatee button. The button can be identified as such due to the rounded circular edge of the button. The later pattern tunic buttons have a rim around the circumference.
The button is in v. good condition and with some wear on the silver plate on the high points.
