This is a post 1855, tunic button (large size), worn by an enlisted man in the Armagh Regiment of Militia.

Description

This button with its distinctive post 1855 style rim, measures 25/26mms in diameter. It is made of pewter and the colour has the lovely dark patina typical of old pewter.
The button front has the words “Armagh Regiment” at the top, then there is a Victorian crown which is on top of a light infantry style bugle.
The reverse of this wonderful old militia button is maker marked “Smith & Wright . Birmingham”
The button is in good condition with some service wear. This button can be firmly dated between 1855 and 1881.
