Beautiful, Irish Guard’s Silk Post Card produced in France and used during the Great War. (1706161 cu)

Beautiful post card, bought in France and send from the Western Front with Christmas greetings written from a Son to his Father. The card was most likely used and posted during Christmas 1914 as with it comes a small “Happy New Year 1914/15” card full of patriotic Allied flags.

So we have two Irish related items here.
(a) This is the silk post card, the obverse depicts the badge of the Irish Guards with the name “IRISH GUARDS” professionally done in red thread. The silk is surrounded with green embroidered shamrocks. This is a beautifully produced card done in France during the early stages of the Great War.
The reverse of the card has the poignant hand written words of the Irish Guardsman
To Father from son a present from France” He follows by sending Christmas greetings.

(b) An unusual accompaniment being a small colourful Happy New Year card, also made in France.

Both items are in very good condition. There is some brown staining to the buff coloured cardboard backing underneath the silk. The silk a little loose but no damage to it.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a wonderful Irish Guards related item, at one time directly sent home from the Western Front and totally authentic.
