Description

A most interesting piece of early Irish Garda and Dublin policing memerobelia. This is what is commonly known as a carriage plate. They were issued in Victorian times by the Carriage Office in Dublin Castle and after the creation of An Garda Siocána in 1922 the tradition continued. A modern day parallel would be the issuing of hackney and taxi plates and other vehicle permits.

The plate on offer here is a light weight, possibly aluminium badge measuring about 6.5cms in diameter. It carries the 3Castles emblem of the city of Dublin. It also has the words GARDA SIOCANA, 1203 FEAR STIURTHA.
