Description

When I initially listed these buttons I was unsure if they dated to the 1914/16 era or the later early National Army period.  I am now reliabley informed by a collector that  what is on offer here are infact  Irish Volunteer  era buttons from 1914 to 1916. The IV buttons have one “Limerick” as in The Limerick Clothing Factory Ltd. Buttons produced for the Free State Army have 2 “Limericks ” as in The Limerick Clothing Factory Ltd Limerick.  This is a very useful piece of information for collectors to be aware of.

At the outset of the establishment of the National Army, the Limerick Clothing Factory were procured to produce uniforms for the newly formed Irish Army.  However as we now know, the Limerick Clothing Factory also provided uniforms for the Irish Volunteers.

Condition is good with some service wear. The reverse of the button is marked “the Limerick Clothing Factory LIMtd.”

It measures 24mms in diameter approx.
