Large silver washed button, depicting a castle and surrounded by the words HILLSBOROUGH FORT. Very good condition with only some wear to the silver on high points.

These buttons were worn by the Hillsborough Fort Guards. This particular example has a Dublin retailers mark on reverse :COMYNS & SON . DUBLIN.

Hillsborough Fort in Co. Down has been in existence since its construction in the 17th century as an artillery fort.

The button is open back type with a firm shank at reverse.

The diameter of this button measures 22mms.
