The 1927 pattern Irish Free State army helmet was the same style as the German M.16 helmet used by the Germans during World War One.
The helmet on offer here is in good condition with only a few dents to the surface. The helmet retains its original liner, chinstrap and pads. The internal brown leather inset has the classic stamp of Smyths of Dublin and the date 1927.
Finding original helmets with their liner intact is becoming increasingly hard to locate. This helmet has not been touched and has the potential to be restored or simply cleaned up. It is painted white like all similar helmets and has surface rust. The rust will easily clean away and does not eat into the surface metal.
A great helmet worthy of a good home and careful restoration.
