Description
This is an excellent, matching left and right pair of silver and gold bullion Irish epaulattes (both epaulattes marked Left / Right on the metal clips to reverse).
The epaulettes are very elaborate with gorgeous trefoils of silver and gold bullion shamrocks. These are particularly rare items. Decorated with silver and gilt shamrocks and king’s crown buttons, they were worn by Irish County Lieutenants and may well have been used by the Lord Lieutenant. The buttons on the epaulettes date to the 1902 -1922 period, the final years before Irish Independence. The backing on both these items are done in a really nice dark red leather and silk lining. The maker’s name of
Meyers & Mortimer 36 Conduit Street London, W.
appear in gold embossed form on the reverse of each piece. Old ledgers from this company still exist and it MAY be possible with a little effort to trace the purchaser, as it’s a norrow timeframe of 20 years when purchased, and these are items rarely reqauired to be ordered.
For their age, both shoulderboards are in very good conditon, with some signs of service wear. There is some fraying to the silk backing and some of the silver bullion wire that hangs over the shoulder is pulled. These minor defects do not take from the appearance or quaility of the item.
Please Note: this item will be dispatched from Ireland by An Post, registered mail. Items posted to countries outside the E.U. and Northern Ireland, may incur additional charges. Also, cost of shipping is subsidised, you will only be charged €10 towards postage and packaging on checkout.
