This lovely old badge may well date as far back as the foundation of the Gardaí in 1922. Certainly, it is the first pattern type as it has the old Gaelic form with the “t” in the spelling of the word Sío”t”cana”. The “t” was dropped in later spellings of the word.

This badge is die struck from brass, it now has a dull gilt appearance and the high points of the obverse are bright. An attractive and scarce item, the badge is die struck and has two lugs to reverse.
