Description

A lovely, silverd button, with nice patina, dome shaped, closed back and maker marked to reverse “Jennens & Co. London”.

The button measures 26cms approx in diameter. Virtually no service wear and the silvered finish is 99.5% present.

The button has a Victorian crown above the Maid of Erin harp. Beneath the harp is a scroll with the word “Kilkenny”. All of these regimental features are surrounded by an arc of shamrocks.

This button can be precisely dated bwtween 1855 and 1881. The rim around the circumference is a diagnostic feature of buttons desigend to be worn on tunics from 1855 onwards, rather than the earlier coatee.
