A rare piece of 19th century Irish history. This is the button from the uniform of an Irish Lord Lieutenant. Maker marked to reverse and retaining all its gilt wash, this button is of high quality multiple piece construction.

Description

The Irish Lord Lieutenants lived in the Vice Regal Lodge (now Áras an Úachteráin) in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. A Lord Lieutenant was the representative of the British Monarch in Ireland.

This button is of two piece construction, all gilt survives. It measures 22mms in diameter.

The button is well maker marked to reverse:

“FIRMIN & SONS 153 STRAND & 13 CONDUIT ST. LONDON”. (CIRCA 1852 – 1875).
