Here we have 2 medals, both awarded for service during the period of the Irish War of Independence 1919 – 1922.
(1) Bronze 1921 Service Medal without (Comhrac) bar. This was awarded for services such as carrying dispatches and other support services during the war. It was issued in 1941.
(2) The 1921 – 1971 Irish War of Independence Survivors medal. This was issued in 1971 to the veterans of the Irish War of Independence who were still alive for the 50th Anniversary of the war. The green box issued with this medal was where both of these medals were stored together for many years.
I know that both of these medals were issued to a member of Cúmann na mBan.
Both medals are in very very good condition, with great clean original ribbons.
