Lovely pair of Irish Militia coatee buttons from an officer’s uniform of the North Tipperary Militia circa 1837 – 1855. (1908092)

The large coatee button measures 22mms in diamter. The smaller button which was used to secure the officer’s epaulette measures 16mms in diameter.

Both buttons are identical in design and they are both retailed by HUGH FOLEY DUBLIN. This retailer’s name appears on the reverse of both buttons.

The design on the buttons comprise a Victorian crown above the Maid of Erin harp. Underneath is a scroll with the words “North Tipperary”.

These are early Victorian coatee buttons. They can be thus identified as the circular edge of the buttons are rounded. The later pattern tunic buttons have a rim around the circumference.

Both buttons are in v. good condition and with some wear on the silver plate on the high points.
