Possible Irish Volunteer button – smaller than standard issue size. (1906077)

Here we have a very different type of Irish army “I.V.” button. While it is a large tunic button, it measures about 23mms in diameter – that is 2mms smaller than other issues. This to me may suggest an earlier striking. The broad harp dominates the front of the button.

Description

Besides its size, the button is also distinctive in that it has a lighter “tinnier” feel to it making it stand out from the range of other buttons in the series. It is not maker marked.

The button has a loose shank and it also has a minor dent at the back. The verdigris on the front of the button can be cleaned off.
