Virtually unique, one of a set of buttons designed for the Royal Visit of King George iv to Ireland in 1821.

Description

A flat, opened back Irish livery button, centred with GR IV monogram and the date 1821, surrounded by the text:-

‘Cead Mile Failte – In Ireland’

The reverse of the button is finished with bands of shamrock. The button is not maker marked.
A similar/identical button was made by Murphy’s of Dublin for the same occasion in1821.

These buttons were designed to commemorate the Royal Visit to Ireland in 1821. An exceptionally rare item.

This gilt button is in excellent condition and is over 21cms in dimater.
