This is a large and unusual button and the first of its type that I have encountered in all my years of collecting Irish buttons. This is a slightly domed button with the coat of arms of the Borough of Dún Laoighaire surrounded by the words “Dún Laoghaire Corporation”. Dún Laoghaire was formerly known as “Kingstown”.
Another interesting feature of this button is on the reverse. When you examine it closely you will see the “ghost mark” shape of an Irish harp. This was done at time of manufacture – an interesting talking point.
