Description
This is an interesting, mid Victorian campaign medal which was approved for issue in 1856 for troops that served in the Baltic Sea operations during the Crimean War of 1854 – 1856. With slightly over 100 officially named examples, these medals were issued unnamed. While some medals, privately named, do appear on the market, the example on offer here was issued unnamed.
The medal compriases of a silver, circular disk, the obverse with the head of Queen Victoria and the legend VICTORIA REGINA. The reverse of the medal comprises a figure of Britannia, images of the campaign and the words Baltic with the dates 1854 -1856.
