Description

On close examination of this postcard it is possible to confirm that the image is of the 284 AT Co. Royal Engineers.  The soldier who wrote the postcard to his Mother Mrs. Knight is also marked with an X where he stands on the bridge.

Bill’s mother’s address is Fleur De Lis, Gillingham Rd. Gillingham, Kent. It appears to have been posted in May 1916.

Bill writes:

“Dear Ma, received your letter quite safely, am sorry I have been unable  to write before, over the Irish business. This is a photo of a bridge we built. Will write more later. Best love to all at home, yours Bill xxxxx”

A very interesintg piece of personal history worthy of more research.
