South of Ireland Imperial Yeamanry Officer’s button circa 1902 (2307012)

The South of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry existed for only eight years between 1902 and 1908.

In 1908, the S.I.Y. was reformed as the South Irish Horse, and in 1917 the S.I.H became the 7th Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. The unit was disbanded in 1922.

This is a very scarce button and by it’s design quality most certainly is an officer’s button.

With a central shamrock, the circumference of the button is marked SOUTH – IRELAND – YEOMANRY

The reverse of the button is maker marked “JENNENS &Co LONDON”

This is a standard size button for an S.I.Y tunic, it measures 20mms in diameter.

The button is in very good condition.

I have a small and limited number of these buttons in stock.
